FAQ

  • Why is my session 50 minutes long?

    Did you know the College of social workers and registered psychotherapists require therapists to create and retain accurate medical records within each session? If you want more time with your therapist, ask to book a 1.5 or 2-hour appointment.

  • How many therapy sessions will I need?

    The number of sessions that you may require will depend on your unique circumstances, needs and personal goals for therapy. In many cases, clients have achieved desired results in as few as four or five sessions. In some cases, clients come for several months before they meet their treatment goals.

  • Do I need a referral for counselling?

    Clients can self-refer. Call us today to book an appointment.

  • Is counselling covered under OHIP?

    No.

  • Do you accept insurance?

    Our therapists are registered social workers, registered psychotherapists and registered nurses and services may be covered under extended health care benefits. Contact your HR or benefits department to check if counselling by a registered is covered in your plan.

  • Can I claim tax benefit on Counselling expenses?

    Yes. Counselling by registered social workers is considered as a medical expense by Canada Revenue. You can claim tax benefit while filing your return at the end of the financial year.

  • Can I change therapists?

    We are here to serve your best interests. If you are not happy with your present therapist just let us know and we can assist in scheduling your next sessions with another therapist.

  • How do I get started?

    Your first step is to email us at info@tfec.ca, call us at 905-799-2228, or fill out any one of the contact forms for us to schedule your first appointment. One of our intake coordinators will ask few questions over the phone to evaluate if counselling is your best treatment option. Our intake coordinator may then assist you in selecting a therapist depending on your requirements and time schedule and book your first appointment. The intake coordinator will also answer any questions regarding services, fees, confidentiality and what to expect in therapy.
