We understand that being a teenager is hard. From school assignments, to friendship melodramas, to clingy boyfriends or girlfriends and parents nagging you about your future, it can be difficult to find time in your own space to think and reflect on the things that are important to you. But you are not alone!
Although it may appear as though your friends and the other kids at school have it all put together that is simply not the case. We see lots of teens for lots of reasons and we know what we are talking about.
Counselling is a great opportunity to confide in someone about issues of concern without fear of being judged or criticized.

Is Counselling Right for Me?
If you are wondering if youth counselling is something that can help you, here are some questions to ask yourself:
Do you ever have really strong feelings you don’t know what to do with? Sadness, frustration, loneliness, anger, anxiety or guilt?
Is it hard to talk about these feelings with your friends or family?
Have you been having major problems at home, at school, at work or in your neighborhood?
Are you sleeping or eating more or less than usual?
Have you lost enjoyment from things that you used to like to do?
Do you find that these thoughts and feelings have been having a bad effect on your grades at school, your friendships or the relationship you have with your family?
If you answered YES to any of these questions, then we can tell you that youth counselling would be helpful for you. Out Youth Counselling can help you in understanding your feelings and problems and learn how to deal with them in your everyday life. Your conversations with your counsellor will be kept confidential and not shared with anyone (even your parents) unless you give your permission. The only exception to this rule is if you plan to hurt yourself or someone else or if it is about the neglect or abuse of a child and then by law your counsellor has to report it to make sure everyone is safe.
What can I talk about? Is my issue too big?
The youth counsellors (or therapists) at The Family Enhancement Centre are specifically trained to work with teens and have years of experience working with them. Our first goal is to put you at ease and make sure this is a good experience for you. Teens come to counselling for a variety of reasons some really big and some not so big. Here is just some of what we have talked to teens about:
Separation or divorce of parents
Bullying or isolation from peers
Time management in school
Death of a close friend or family member
Self image / Body image
Conflict with parents
Confusion over transition from kid to teen
Anxiety or panic attacks

How will Youth Counselling Help me?
Having a third party who is an objective listener can make discussing difficult issues a lot easier. Counsellors are an excellent way to help you explore what you’re going through and how you feel about it. Their main goal is to listen to you and help you figure out what you want, and then they help to empower you to make good decisions.
The Family Enhancement Centre has many therapists who specifically work with youth and are skilled at quickly putting you at ease and making each session a positive experience. We can also work with you to share information with your family or help to improve your relationships.
Seeing a therapist can help decrease anxiety and ‘out of control’ feelings, can bring a sense of relief that someone else understands and has ideas about how to ‘fix’ the situation or problem and can help you begin to regain a sense of hope.

Anger Management for Teens
If you or your teen child are struggling with managing angry emotions, we offer anger management counselling specifically for teens. This program is one on one and works collaberativly with teens and their parents to help teach angry emotion control in a healthy way.
