Neika pryce

RN & PSYCHOTHERAPIST

I have my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ryerson University as well as certification as a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse. I have extensive hospital experience where I provided one-on-one counselling, facilitated groups, and was team leader. These roles also involved relationships with community partners, education and training of staff, and students. I have extensive knowledge in teaching clients about depression and anxiety, using the DBT and CBT therapeutic models.

As a mental health nurse, I bring empathy, and an easy-going communication style, with a unique sense of humor; making it easy for me to speak and relate to patients, and family members. I believe in a strong therapeutic relationship between therapist and client, which is the foundation needed to help build good rapport and creates a comfortable environment.

As a person of colour, I have lived experiences of being stigmatized and marginalized. This has helped me to empathize and relate to people of similar experiences. Such as other people of colour and various nationalities; individuals with mental health and addiction, and People of First Nations. This helps to strengthen the therapeutic relationships with clients.

A typical day for me includes assessing and evaluating clients on mental health crises such as anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, dementia, and those who struggle with substance abuse. Although I am able to administer medications as a viable option, I have been very successful with the holistic approach of listening and educating clients to obtain optimal health.

I have enjoyed over 20 years of helping patients achieve their mental health goals. In my spare time, I love spending it with my family; I also enjoy cooking, traveling, singing in the choir, and teaching Sunday school.
